Our Heritage
Ludlow Jute Mills was founded in 1921 by the Ludlow Corp. of Ludlow, Massachusetts, United States. Ludlow has continued to be a trailblazer in the development of jute products and the jute industry in India. The Kankaria Group owns and operates the jute mill.
At Ludlow, we take pride in innovation. In addition to the traditional applications of jute, such as fabrics for packaging, we have created and perfected products such as special yarn, scrim, and the jute soil saver. An innovation by Ludlow, “soil saver,” our registered trademark, has now become a generic term for soil erosion control.

Manufacturing Facilities
The sprawling Ludlow campus has been on the banks of the river Hooghly for nearly a century. With multiple manufacturing facilities, offices, living quarters, medical and educational facilities, our campus has over 100 buildings as well as roads and railway lines.
The manufacturing establishments include water reservoirs and power plants, in addition to a presshouse, and selection and baling plants. At the centre of all this is one of India’s largest modernized jute mills, which is equipped with state-of-the-art machinery and is capable of producing high volumes of the finest products. About the Group
It takes tiny droplets to make an ocean. Just like all great visions have their humble origin as ideas in someone’s mind – this idea took the shape of a dream and the dream became a reality. But not without perseverance, years of hard work and support from like minded people who shared the same aspiration. The man with this vision was Sri Harakh Chand Kankaria, the founding father of what is today a corporate empire called – The Kankaria Group, founded in 1941.
